MEAL PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES:
931 W. Madison serves Sunday through Friday 5:30 pm - 6:15 pm
2628 N. Martin Luther King Drive serves Monday - Friday 5:30pm - 6:15 pm
Did you know that the SVDP Meal Programs serve an average of 140,000 meals annually?
This is only made possible by our volunteer groups who purchase and prepare the food and
bring it to the meal sites to serve to guests. No amount of time given to this ministry
is too small! Individuals and groups are welcome!
POUR BEVERAGES/SERVE SUPPER
Every guest at the meal program is treated with dignity and respect. They walk
through the food line and are seated at community tables. Volunteers are needed
to serve food while they walk through the line and to pour beverages (milk, water,
and coffee) once the guests are seated. This is a good opportunity for individuals
or small groups.
HOSPITALITY
Some meal guests come hungry for human interaction as well as food. If you are
outgoing or have the gift of gab, this is a wonderful chance to help feed souls
as well as bodies. Volunteers who partake in this ministry have shared that they
feel like they receive a special gift from talking to the guests. Simply greeting
guests with a smile and lending a listening ear is all it takes.
CLEAN UP
During the meal and immediately following, the dish room is a flurry of activity.
Most nights, real flatware, cups and trays are used. Volunteers are needed to
assist with the washing and putting away of these items. A large, industrial
size dishwasher is provided. The tables and chairs also need to be wiped down
and the floor swept and mopped. All of these duties are generally done by 6:45 pm.
SET UP
Every guest at the meal site is provided with a clean napkin and flatware for
each meal. Volunteers are needed to help wrap a knife, fork and spoon in a paper
napkin. This can be done as early as 3:00 pm and only takes about 45 minutes. A
perfect opportunity if you have only a short amount of time to give once in a while.
PREPARE A MEAL
This is a special opportunity for a group to really serve their neighbors. The
Martin Luther King location is in need of several groups to shop for, prepare and
serve the meal for approximately 150 guests. There are several nights available each
month. Please call Mae or Juanita at 414-374-4095 after 3:00 pm for more information.
BREAD AND BOOKS
Do you have a passion to enhance the life of a child? Are you 16 years or older and
have 1 hour of time one night per week? This opportunity may be for you! We need
volunteers to read children's books to the children that visit our sites.

GLAD WITH DAD EVENTS
Glad with Dad is a program designed to encourage fathers to bond with their children.
Once a month, they get together with the VFRC Parenting Advocate to pursue this goal.
Help is needed with both monetary donations and time to assist with facilitating the
events. Events typically include roller skating, sporting events, going to a movie,
or attending special showings at museums.
HELP ASSEMBLE PROGRAMS FOR MAILING
Three times a year, the VFRC mails a listing of programs to families in the neighborhood.
This is a large mailing that requires many hands to help with folding, sealing and applying
mailing labels. This is a great opportunity for a group project!
FAMILY FUN EVENTS
One way the VFRC achieves its goals is to hold family fun events such as Harvest Fest in Fall and
an Easter event in Spring. Volunteers are needed to help with donations of food and other
items and to give time during the events. These events require a commitment of 3-4 hours and
usually take place on a Thursday evening or a Saturday afternoon. Please contact the VFRC for
specific dates and time!
